Chris Quinn - Minister
Chris Quinn was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Soon after graduating from college, he became a Christian through obedience of the Gospel. In 1976, Chris began occasional preaching and has since served churches in Pennsylvania, Texas, and California, as well as in Honduras and Colombia. His fluency in Spanish has helped him to work closely with the churches of Christ in Medellin, Colombia for over 35 years, including 3½ years residing there. Over the years, Chris has also worked in accounting and education, completing 18 years in public education as a teacher and school principal. In 1997 he earned a doctorate from the University of Southern California and served as a professor at Azusa Pacific University for ten years before he began preaching the Gospel at the Johnson Avenue. He and his wife Betsy, a retired educator, live in La Mesa, California.
Oscar Velasquez - Spanish Minister
I am so blessed to have the opportunity to serve God and His Church in Johnson Avenue for the past ten years, where my wife Jessica and I have been raising our three daughters with the good examples of the brethren here, the great love and care of our Shepherds and also the loving service of our Deacons. Language is not a barrier but an opportunity to serve God in Johnson Avenue. Oscar Velazquez begun serving as our Spanish Evangelist in August 2004. Prior to beginning his work with Johnson Avenue, Oscar served for three years helping Carlos Peres, the Evangelist for Chula Vista Iglesia De Cristo on L Street, and also worked with Jose Luis Torres the Evangelist for Palomar Iglesia De Cristo in Chula Vista. Oscar is a Certified Marriage Seminar Facilitator for the Family Dynamics Institute. He has studied Spanish correspondence courses with Wichita Falls Texas Spanish Literature Ministry from the Church of Christ, correspondence courses with Bayamon Puerto Rico Church of Christ, and correspondence courses with Truth for Today Arkansas, correspondence courses with CBPOC materials by Larry Withe Farmerville Louisiana Church of Christ. He also had the honor and privilege to study at the feet of Agustin Garcia Figueroa Lara, after Brother Agustin retired from directing The Latin American Christian Institute in Tijuana B.C. Mexico. Agustin also worked with Oscar at Johnson Avenue from February 2006 until he went to be with the Lord, for almost three years blessing him with his knowledge. Oscar was invited by Dillard Harwell and his fellow Elders to start the Spanish work teaching three Hispanic members at the time in 2004 and God increased the work and the members to 75 today.
Andrew Lemus - Family and Youth Minister
Andrew Lemus was born and raised in the Inland Empire of Southern California. In his pursuit of truth, he was taught the gospel through an internet chat room in 2003. After obeying the gospel in July of 2003, he met and married Aimee Biffle. Soon after their marriage the two of them decided to attend the Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver where both of them graduated and received a bachelor’s degree. Aimee received a bachelor’s degree in Theology and Andrew in Bible. Since graduating from Bear Valley in 2007 Andrew and Aimee have been serving the Lord full time through teaching, evangelizing, ministering, and preaching.
Andrew first served as an intern for six months with the Broken Arrow Church of Christ in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma as a domestic missionary. Following those six months of service he led in planting a church in Conifer Colorado where he served for three years. From Colorado he went back to his hometown of Norco California where he served as an evangelist, preacher, and teacher for three years.
Aimee Lemus has written for various blogs, spoken at various ladies days, taught numerous Bible classes, and has served her household of three, soon to be four, children. Having been the daughter of a minister, Aimee effectively serves as a minister’s wife. Aimee, who was part of the Oklahoma Christian singing group New Reign in 2001, loves leading the ladies in worship at ladies days and studies.
Andrew and Aimee now reside in Santee, CA and are serving God through the Johnson Avenue Church of Christ. Andrew serves as a preacher, evangelist, and minister of the Johnson Avenue Church of Christ with an emphasis on serving the youth and families.
